"Pretty darn good!"

Feature:
n/a

Desirability:
They look great, and they sound better than any monitor I can think of for the price.

Sound:
Not as good as an HR824 (my main pair as well) but I can't think of anything in the same price range that sounds anywhere near as good as these do. I have a very clear idea of what is going on in a mix listening to these monitors. I have no problems doing good mixes on them whatsoever.

Support:
Don't know

"Sound not up to par."

Feature:
Features were fine. I prefer front-mounted vent ports, which these had.

Quality:
Seemed well-made. Just sounded bad.

Value:
If the sound sucks, they have no value. I haven't tried a whole lot of monitors, but I'd steer clear of these and keep looking if I were you.

Desirability:
Good sex appeal. Bad sound.

Sound:
I bought this thinking I would have a second "voice" to A/B against my mackie 824's during final mixdowns, just as a sanity check. Oh my god. It was obvious immediately that the Events were dull, robbed of any tonal quality, missing frequencies, etc. They obviously weren't showing me everything in my mixes, unlike the mackies. I also A/B'd them against my old Tannoy Reveal 6" passive monitors. The Tannoys lacked bass compared to the mackies, but other than that, the Tannoys and the Mackies were similar. Both sounded infinitely better, truer, with more detail and life, than these Event monitors. It's pretty sad. They seemed like a good deal for the money, but I think any home stereo would make a better monitoring system, frankly.

Ease of Use:
Couldn't have been easier to use. No settings whatsoever. Plug and go.

Support:
didn't have to deal with them.

About This Product!
Description
Docs
In the few short months since their release in September, 2002, Event's Tuned Reference Biamplified Direct Field Monitors have taken the MI market by storm, offering vast legions of recording musicians access to true world-class reference monitoring at an incredibly affordable price. Now, in order to serve those musicians whose monitoring environments require reproducing high volume levels (or who just like to crank their monitors to "11"), Event has introduced the Tuned Reference 8XL. The 8XL model uses the same driver components as in the original TR8 system, but features a powerful new amplifier that delivers a full 150 watts (100 woofer/50 tweeter) to each speaker. The XL also incorporates a high-performance torroid power transformer, which gives the new model superior electrical and mechanical noise characteristics. The end result is a high-powered professional reference monitor that continues Event's long-standing tradition of providing "mixes you can trust" monitoring.

The name Tuned Reference comes from the monitors being precision tuned to provide flat frequency response and uncolored sound, thereby giving the user a true sonic reference for mixing. The design ensures that mixes created on a Tuned Reference monitor will translate accurately to other playback systems. What's the significance of the "XL" designation? It's for Xtra Loud!
