The benefits of Neodymium
Always the innovator, ElectroVoice was the first to use neodymium magnets in their dynamic microphones. Neodymium has a stronger magnetic field than more traditional materials, offering faster response and increased signal strength. This gives you more vocals with less gain, for a cleaner stage mix. Your frontman will cut through the hairiest instrumental-levels without having to crank his channel all the way up. Lower mic gain means less chance for feedback, making the sound tech's job much easier. Feedback is further controlled with the ND767A's supercardioid pickup pattern. This unidirectional pattern automatically rejects off-axis sounds, so nothing but the singer enters the signal path. The frontman is free to wander the stage, working the crowd, still coming through with crisp presence.
Adding dynamics with the proximity effect
The ND767A's wide frequency range reproduces every note of the melody with natural accuracy. In fact, ElectroVoice lists two independent response curves based on vocal proximity. Dynamic microphones naturally exaggerate bass frequencies when held up close to the mouth. Lesser microphones tend to sound boomy and muddy, as a result. Not true with the ND767A, though. Its Vocally Optimized Bass (VOB) technology provides expressive control over the proximity effect, adding warmth and richness when used up close. At a distance of 24 inches, you get a frequency response of 70Hz to 22kHz. Bring your lips to within 1/4 inch of the mesh screen, and the lows extend down to 35Hz. On stage, you'll soon learn to adjust that distance to compliment your vocal lines. Bring the mic in close for creamy intimacy on the verse, then pull back for those high intensity hooks as you blaze through the chorus. Both sections will sound amazing, and the added dynamics will bring a whole new mood to the song.
Consistent performance at high-energy gigs
The best live bands always push their performance right out to the edge, creating a memorable experience for the audience. This controlled chaos is what transforms a lukewarm listener into a lifelong fan. The singer takes the lead here, too. In the immortal words of Jeff Bebe of Stillwater, "I work as hard or harder than anybody on that stage. You know what I do? I connect. I get people off.
