"Great sounding unit. When it breaks, it's by by."

Feature:
A box mixer/amplifier has everything "on board" that you need. Accessories? I don't know what you could add to this unit. A foam case would be nice at extra cost. 2 one octave eq's and 2 effects units each with 99 presets. Feedback warning light on the eq's is a help, but I prefer to use my ears to ring out a PA system.

Quality:
Here's the catch. Behringer quality is bad. EVERYTHING out of China is bad. Loose solder connectors, bad ribbon connectors from the mixer to the amplifier, BAD BAD XLR input units. I wish Behringer would spend $25 extra and use better quality XLR's. I wish they would fix their robots to solder the circuit boards correctly. Construct these units so they can be repaired. I mean--rivets to close up the mixer section??? NASTY. But all stuff from China is the same. After the warranty it's pretty much a throw away. This INCLUDES the nifty black new units. Ever take an electronic unit to a repair shop? Start with $150 to open the unit up THEN add repair cost. You want cheap? You get cheap. Buy an extended warranty.

Value:
OK. Everyone sells Behringer for the same price. "MAP". Yes if you buy a bunch of stuff, you can get a discount. GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY--PERIOD!! For the price, it's a great product. Too bad they don't sell a German version of Behringer. (it would cost 3 times the money though).

Desirability:
I keep one in my bedroom.

Sound:
The quality of sound is what it is supposed to be. For a mixer/amplifier (no room for large power supplies--people would whine about the weight anyway) the sound is perfect from 60 hz to 20,000 hz. You want 20 hz bass--triple the weight. Better yet buy a $600 amp & $500 mixer. As far as headroom on the mic preamps--no box mixer is going to do a loud band. The pad lowers the gain by 20 db NOT LINE LEVEL. I rent this stuff and for what it is intended to do, it's great. Effects are great for a built in unit. You want better effects? Buy a $1000 English rack effects unit. Quiet--loud and EASY to use.

Ease of Use:
If you can't get really good sound from this unit, go to your local Community College and take an Audio Engineering and learn about gain structure and how to read a spec sheet. Use good speakers (in the $600 range-ea.) and you will be happy. Use $150 speakers and try doing metal and and you have no hope.

Support:
Ever have a computer go down? You call tech service and you get a human recording of "is it plugged in" etc. But with Behringer, it's worse! Bottom line--send it back in the origional box (yup we all save the boxes don't we). What you get back is a new (or used) mixer section or a new (or used) amplifer/power supply. The stuff is riveted together! Yes there are screws so you can get to the rivets.

Overall:
Till the extended warranty expires. Then sell it on e-bay and buy another.

"Great product for the price, but with at least one major limitation, that is, the lack of the gain trimming."

Feature:
No accessories. The most usefull feature is the dual effects, and the 20 pounds on weight. A second major limitation is the absense of the gain trim on the channels. The fixed gain is just too high and the channels will clip. During our gig, the peak lights on the microphone channels were constantly ON and the sound was distorded. The worst is that there was nothing I could do about it but tell the vocalist to keep the microphone at a distance from his mouth, but it was hard to do consistently. There is a PAD pusbutton, nut this will reduce the gail to Line level, not usable for microphones. I can't believe that Behringer would omit the trip and replace it with a PAD on their top of the line box powered mixer. It makes it unusable for microphones. I will return this mixer just for this reason.

Quality:
I had this mixer for two weeks and I have used it twice. It looks fairly well build, but I cannot tell how reliable are the electronics inside the box. Like I said before, a great atribute is that it is lightweight, it won't kill your back.

Value:
If it had not the limitations I have described above, I would have bought a second one too.

Desirability:
I plan to return it and try the PMH5000.

Sound:
The sound quality is pretty good, the effects are usable and I had enough power for my gig. The power amps did not clip at all. A dissapointment was in the effects section. When you first turn the power ON, the effects return to some defaults. That means that after you choose the effects you like, you must keep the mixer ON all the time. If you turn the power OFF and then back ON, the settings are lost and you must return to your last presets, if you remember the numbers. A friend who bought this mixer a year ago does not have this problem. His mixer remembers the last settings. I contacted the Behringer tech support and I was told that they have "upgraded" the effects section so that the last settting are lost after the power is turned OFF. To me this is a downgrade, a big inconvenience. Very dissapointed.

Ease of Use:
The interface is intuitive and the controls are standard. The channel EQs are not very effective. The same is true for the graphic equalizers. The manual is rather consice. I had a concern about the input voltage. On the back of the mixer it says 120V AC. The manual says 100V-240V AC. It makes a difference to me because I may take the mixer to Europe (240V). The tech support clarified that the corrrect spec is 100V to 240V.

Support:
The tech support was prompt in answering questions, even though the answers did not help much as there were mostly clarifications.

Overall:
I am already searching for a replacement.

The working band's PA!
If you plan to play your music in front of an audience, you'll probably be plugging into a PA system. Some of the more established live-music venues have fancy mixers and racks full of power amps, but most clubs don't. Roll up to the local dive-bar or the nearest VFW hall, and you'll be lucky if they even have a stage. In many cases, you'll have to unplug some neon beer signs just to have enough power outlets for the guitar amps. Modular PA systems with individual components are often too bulky and expensive for working bands, but powered mixers offer compact audio control at an affordable price. Packed with features, Behringer's PMH880S powered mixer is the perfect way to take your show on the road.

10 Input channels
With ten input channels, the PMH880S gives you complete control over your music. You can easily push the whole band through the board for lower stage-volume, reduced feedback, and a tighter mix. Six mono-channels handle instrument- and microphone-sources with dedicated high- and low-impedance jacks per channel. Run lead-vocals, two guitars, and a bass, with inputs left over to mic the drums when needed. Larger bands with keyboards, DJ gear, or stereo guitar effects can take advantage of the two stereo input channels. Mix everything to perfection and send it all through the mains, making tweaks on the fly. You won't have to wiggle your eyebrows and bob your head at the bass player in the middle of the tune, knowing he has no idea what you mean. Just walk over to the mixer and adjust the lows yourself.

Tone-shaping controls
Dedicated gain knobs, clip LED's, and -30dB pads provide strong, clean signals on every channel. You can also create a custom monitor mix with the "Mon" knobs. Boost the vocals to keep everyone on the melody, or bump up the bass guitar to lock-in with the groove. Onboard phantom power lets you use condenser microphones for pro-quality sound. You can further enhance the mix with individual pan and 3-band EQ controls. Shape the frequencies to make each input sound its best, then spread them all out across the stereo field. When instruments and vocals all have room to breathe like this, your songs will really come to life. Intricate riffs, subtle dynamics, and delicate textures are no longer squashed together, letting the audience hear all the details you work so hard to create.

Onboard digital effects
External effects racks add to your sonic options, but they can be bulky and expensive. The PMH880S has two integrated digital processors to customize your mix without the added weight or cost. These 24-bit/46kHz effects can add reverb, delay, vocal harmonies, and more to any input, just by boosting the FX level on the desired channels. You can even turn the processors on or off during a song with an optional footswitch. Dial up a creamy phaser for the verse, then switch to a spaced-out multi-tap delay when the chorus kicks in. If you've already got rack effects, an insert loop lets you blend them into individual channels with the same FX knobs the onboard processors use.

Master control section
Once you've got each channel dialed-in, Behringer's master control section lets you smooth out any rough spots for a pristine final mix. First, the stereo Aux insert routs global effects straight to the mains. A little compression can go a long way, adding punchy tightness to the overall groove. Next, a seven-band graphic EQ shapes your tone to perfection. It also includes Behringer's FBQ circuitry to help control feedback. LED's on each fader automatically light-up when feedback is detected in that frequency range. Just cut the level until the light goes out, and the squeal is history. A second seven-band EQ with FBQ is available for the monitor mix. Master level controls for the mains and the monitors let you set the volume to match the room. Keep it down in more intimate settings, or crank it up to fill any venue. The standby button instantly mutes all ten channels between sets.

2-track input with voice canceller
The master section also contains a two-track RCA input to add more music to the mix. This input is independent of channels 1-10, so you can play CD's while the band is on a break without having to unplug and re-EQ. If your timing is good, you can add horn parts or other samples to your tunes by jamming along with pre-recorded tracks on your iPod or other digital audio device. Have the band practice with a click-track, and you'll be hitting the perfect tempo in no time. You can also invite some fans up for instant karaoke. The two-track input's voice canceller feature automatically removes the lead vocals from a stereo recording, leaving the backing tracks for accompaniment.

CoolAudio power amp
Behringer's CoolAudio power section gives you plenty of wattage without all the weight. In stereo mode, you get 400 Watts per side at four ohms. Bridged mono, that's 800 Watts at 8 ohms. CoolAudio amps are extremely efficient, giving you all the power you want without excess heat. This eliminates the need for heavy heatsinks found on most powered mixers, making for a lighter, smaller box nearly half the size and weight of similar devices. At around twenty pounds, you'll want to take your PMH880S everywhere. It's only 12" high, 18" wide, and 8.5" deep, so your storage options are unlimited.

Output connections
Versatile connections make it easy to add this powered mixer to any speaker setup. Industry-standard Speakon connectors on the back panel match up with any of the latest passive speaker enclosures on the market today. Additional 1/4-inch jacks on the front panel work well with any loudspeakers that haven't adopted the Speakon standard. In stereo mode, the two rear connections feed each half of the stereo mix. When bridged mono, one side feeds the mains, and the other side feeds the monitors. If you want to record the live show, a two-track RCA output sends the whole mix to a video camera, cassette deck, laptop audio interface, or similar recording device. You'll get an accurate representation of your latest gig, just as you mixed it. Burn CD's, then pass them out to build your fan base, or use them to learn which parts of your set are working and which parts still need work.
