"Do yourself a favor and use a non-Fender wireless mic with your Passport system."
A great idea but the performance sucks.
Sound
No gain. Your lips have to be touching the mic to get any volume out of it.
Features
It's great to have a wireless mic integrated into your Passport PA system. Just turn it on and you have a built-in wireless mic. Too bad the sound quality sucks.
Ease of Use
Very easy to set up. Just remove the protective cover over the connection in the storage compartment and plug in the receiver. It screws in and becomes part of the main unit. Then match the receiver to the mic by pushing a button and pointing the mic end at the receiver.
Quality
The range of the mic was OK but there is low volume from the mic itself. It's as if there is no gain to the mic. You have to practically eat the mic to get any volume out of it. The wired mics on the same system don't have this problem.
Value
$350 is a lot to pay for a flawed device.
Manufacturer Support
Took it to a Fender service center where they first thought I just didn't know how to match the mic to the receiver. I had to go back and show them what the problem was. They agreed that the volume issue was a problem and ordered a new mic but the new one behaved the same. So they ordered a new receiver . . . same result. I called Fender's customer relations dept. and explained the issue. They authorized… read more replacing the main Passport system in a vain attempt to solve the problem. After replacing every component it still had the same low volume issue. This indicates that all of these wireless mics are flawed unless I just happened to get two defective units -- not likely.
The Wow Factor
Would be nice if it worked.
