In my opinion, the PM-3 simply cannot be improved upon. I've played practice sessions with it about four times now with other musicians, and even THEY have a hard time believing I'm not playing an acoustic kit.
Not quite loud enough to play a gig with, but would definitely suffice as a monitoring system for gigging. Definitely handy to have separate controls each for Mix Input, High Volume, Woofer Volume and Master Input level. I've even had a guitarist run through the Mix input once with great results for a practice session. Would be -perfect- for use by drums and keyboard during practices since you'd have separate levels for each and plenty of volume to go around!
Setup/teardown is dirt-simple, and it's extremely rugged. I personally plan to practice and Gig with this thing until it dies and then replace with another...rinse, wash and repeat.

I purchased the PM-3 after much review and checking at the local music store. Yes, it's expensive but very bullet proof. I have used it for practice and small gigs. It needs to be louder for practice but for the small gig, it offers the right amount of sound for the club. For the gig, I controlled the sound much easier than I ever could with an acoustic kit. The acoustic guitars I backed up loved it as I gave them just enough "groove" to help them along. At first they were scepticle as they felt drummers would be too loud, but later were very impressed with the results!
