ALL vertical corners should be treated with bass traps as this is where those low frequencies tend to accumulate. Most acousticians and acoustic experts tend to agree that these areas require the most immediate attention in a typical rectangular room.

Next, treat the early reflection points in your room. These are places where your listening position may be closer to wall or other hard surface and that will bounce sound into your ears at closer range. This quick reflection of sound is sometimes called slap echo. Some people treat these spaces with bass traps, others treat them with High Frequency absorption like the model shown here. Either is fine. Bass traps will absorb low to high frequencies whereas High Frequency panels treat mainly higher frequencies.
