Overview
The Nord Piano 2 HA88 lets you play, split and layer sounds from both the Nord Piano Library and the Nord Sample Library and features a versatile effect section - all in a portable package sporting a premium 88-note Hammer Action keybed.
All the sounds have been recorded using their state-of-the-art sampling techniques to capture the extraordinary nuances and unique characters of the source instruments and covers everything from brilliant, factory new Grand Pianos to detuned upright bar pianos with tons of charm.
The entire Nord Piano Library is included on DVDs and new additions can be downloaded free on the Nord Piano Library page. Replacing the sounds in your Nord Piano 2 is simply a matter of dragging and dropping files in the Nord Sound Manager for Mac and Windows.
Long Release adds a slightly longer release to the tone, which can be suitable when playing legato.
Advanced String Resonance reproduces the intricate interplay of piano strings resonating at their fundamental or harmonic frequencies when other notes are played on their Upright and Grand piano sounds.
Pedal… read more Noise recreates the mechanical sounds of lifting and releasing the damper mechanism, producing the characteristic thomp and sizzle sounds. The Pedal Noise feature responds dynamically to the force/momentum used when pressing or releasing the pedal.

The Sample Synth section has dedicated knobs for adjusting the attack and release and volume of the selected sound. Volume can also be controlled with an optional Volume Pedal and the Sustenuto pedal on the Nord Triple Pedal can be used as a separate Sustain/Gate Pedal for the Sample Synth section for advanced layering possibilites.
With the included software Nord Sample Editor you can even create your own sample instruments. Load your .WAV-files, assign them to keys on the keyboard and transfer them to the Nord Piano 2 to play them instantly. The Nord Sample Editor can also assist you in looping and mapping your sounds.

I purchased the Nord Piano 2 a while ago from Zzounds.com and decided to wait on writing a review until I used it in all the functions I was planning on using it.
I am a touring musician and play approximately 150 gigs/year. I have transported and used this keyboard at multiple venues and have to say that each time I take this keyboard out of its case, it makes me fall in love with it all over again.
I am foremost a fiddler, but have serious keyboard chops and put this keyboard to use. The main reason I chose a Piano 2 compared to a higher end Nord keyboard is because I didn't have a need for extra features other than a solid keyboard. The factors that made me choose Nord are the following:
1. Solid, roadworthy gear that will last through my investment - bulky plastic encasements indeed are light, but not roadworthy. No plastic here. This keyboard is SOLID. Just walking up to it and touching it, you sense it's different than the rest. The action is amazing. My colleagues have all tried my Nord 2 and have been super impressed.
2. No silly, complicated menus to sift through. I'm not impressed by complicated touch screen bells and whistles. My goal when choosing which keyboard I was going to purchase was that I would be able to get the sound I wanted out of the keyboard within 10 seconds of walking up to it. The keyboard had to shine within 10 seconds. If I couldn't achieve the sound, then I ruled that keyboard out. All of the features the Nord 2 offers are easy to navigate…

3. Nord's dedication to providing up-to-date technology on sampling and dedication to providing the user with an interface that was easy and simple to use. Nord has spent incredible amounts of time and energy in making technology work for the user - the samples are stunning. Absolutely incredible.
With regards to Zzounds.com - as always, they are super easy to work with. I was able to find this keyboard new at a lower price and in one phone call Zzounds not only matched the price, they beat it by $50. My home is in Northern NY. I ordered at 1pm and the keyboard was at my doorstep the following morning at 9am - not even 24 hours.
I also purchased a hard Gator case ($350). Fits perfectly and is solid. I have no doubt my investment will last.
Buy a Nord - you won't be sorry.
I haven't used support from the manufacturer, but I'm confident that IF I ever need to, it would be 5 star service.
