Big Tone and Stunning Tonewoods

This J-185 uses snappy Sitka spruce for its top with flawless Indian rosewood for the back and sides. The clarity and depth of the rosewood work especially well with the jumbo-body shape, and the spruce top gives a clean high-end bite to counter the robust low-end. Crafted in Gibson's Bozeman, Montana facility with four-ply binding and hand-scalloped bracing, the J-185 EC projects with bright, full tones that can fill a room with a single strum.

Classic Gibson Style and Specs

Channeling the stunning looks of a golden-era Gibson flattop, the J-185 EC features an abalone rosette, split block mother-of-pearl inlays, and gold Grover kidney-style tuners. The mahogany neck is in a V profile with a 24-3/4 inch scale, and topped with a rich ebony fingerboard. The neck is affixed with a dovetail neck joint running along the deep cutaway on the body. This classic method of neck-joining fosters a staggering degree of sustain through the entirety of the guitar.

Fishman Aura Electronics

This Gibson… read more includes powerful Fishman Aura electronics which closely model the natural sound of the guitar. The Aura system uses acoustic images of the guitar's organic tones to ensure that the sound of the instrument remains intact run through any sound-system or amplifier. The Fishman system is rib-mounted inside the guitar, and includes an onboard tuner.
