what's b-stock?

B-Stock

This is typically a purchase directly from the vendor, who may have used the product at a training session or at a trade show, but this may also be a refurbished product. This inventory includes all parts, components, manuals (hard copy or downloadable) and the full factory warranty. It is guaranteed to work perfectly, but it may have a cosmetic blemish. It may be less attractive than Warehouse or Factory Resealed inventory, but it's priced even lower! This inventory is a great value.

"Another case of 'Money Well Spent'..."

Feature:
The feature I find to be the best is that you can more or less set up the channels without actually having to hear anything. Just use the LED meter. This ability to set things up quickly, coupled with what appear to be very good quality components, are my favorite features. There is really nothing I dislike about this mixer to be honest. Something that works this well goes a long way to instilling confidence when one walks on stage, etc. I'm glad I spent the money!

Quality:
Quality looks outstanding. I didn't give it a 10 because good quality is something that should be evident over time, and I haven't owned the mixer that long. Based on what many others have had to say about Mackie products I'd say I might be willing to bet money that this mixer proves to be as good as it looks.

Value:
I though it was a bit on the expensive side when I first bought it. But now I've owned it for a while, and used it in live performance situations, etc., I'm glad I ponied up the extra money this mixer costs (compared to some competitor's products). Sometimes you do get what you pay for!

Desirability:
Aesthetically, it looks good. Looks complicated, but actually is a very easy mixer to use. I prefer the design of these Onyx mixers over just about every other mixer I've seen. It 'looks' like a very expensive mixer. It also 'looks' like it can do the job. Perception is often important. I think Mackie made a good decision when they decided to make this mixer look the way it does.

Sound:
Sound quality apprears to be top notch. I'm not a sound guy and have little experience with mixers, etc. However, it's far superior to the mixer I was using before I bought this one. The inputs are super-quiet as well; something I'm not used to because other mixers I'd used were never so quiet. Currently I have only used it in live situations and it's been great. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in a recording-type environment.

Ease of Use:
I haven't used many mixers so I have little to compare against. Having said that, this mixer is a doddle to use. The manual is clear for the most part, though there were a couple of areas pertaining to mixing CD signals to the main mix, that I only ever got to work by trial and error, not actually by comprehending what was stated in the manual. Other than that minor issue I couldn't imagine a mixer being any easier to use.

Support:
Never dealt with Mackie support so can't speak to their support.

Overall:
Unless I have a situation where I need more channels simultaneously, or - as I learn more about mixers and what they can do, causing me to want a more feature-laden mixer - I doubt I'll have a need for another mixer.

New Onyx mic preamps meet or surpass any standalone mic preamp on the market in terms of pure fidelity and headroom. The "neo classic" Perkins EQ circuitry gives you the sweet musicality of British EQ and a true hardware EQ bypass. This analog brilliance is paired with a full-featured discrete Aux section, a completely redesigned mix bus and summing amp section, and a Talkback section with onboard mic. The Onyx 1220 provides 4 mic/line inputs, 8 line inputs, 2 buses and 3-band Perkins EQ with sweepable midrange.

The Onyx 1620 provides 8 mic/line inputs, 4 stereo line inputs, 2 buses and 4-band Perkins EQ with dual sweepable midrange. Add the optional 96k FireWire card and you can output a combination of direct outputs (from every single input channel) and the L-R mix, directly into a FireWire equipped computer, and, at the same time, return 2 channels of computer audio for monitoring through the control room/phones matrix.

Optional FireWire I/O
The Simplicity of Analog. The Convenience of Digital.
The Onyx FireWire I/O Card is a true first. This 24-bit/96k card bridges the gap between Mackie's flagship Onyx analog mixers and a Mac or PC, giving musicians and engineers a great-sounding and very efficient way to go from analog to digital - without the need for separate converter boxes or interfaces.
